Greetings;
And welcome to PIKAIA, first public release December 1995
(version 1.0), and now available as version 1.2
The files contained in this directory are the following:
pikaia.f : The PIKAIA 1.2 subroutine. The file also includes a
driver calling PIKAIA, a fitness function defining a
maximization problem for a 2-D landscape, a ranking
subroutine, and a random number generator. All you
need to get going is in there. The file is ready
to be compiled.
userguide.ps : A postscript file containing the User's Guide
to PIKAIA 1.0, complete with encapsulated Figures.
This should print on any postscript printer.
Written for PIKAIA 1.0, very nearly everything in
there remains relevant ti PIKAIA 1.2,
Beware, it is a large file.
relnotes1.2.ps: Release Notes for version 1.2 of PIKAIA; complements
the above User's Guide; explains in details new
operators and strategies included in version 1.2,
and not described in the User's Guide.
examples : A directory containing drivers, fitness functions
and synthetic datasets for the examples in chapter
5 of the user's guide. It has its own README.txt
file, describing the various files contained in
the directory. All examples work with either
versions 1.0 or 1.2 of PIKAIA
examples.tar : A tar file of the examples directory. If you
are running on a Unix system, you may as well
grab this file and untar it at home. Otherwise
it is probably better to grab the files one
by one in the examples directory.
pikaia.pro : An IDL version of PIKAIA 1.0. See section 3.3
of the Reelase Notes for PIKAIA 1.2 for details
(file relnotes.ps above)
pikaia1.0.f : The old version 1.0 of PIKAIA. You are STRONGLY
encouraged to use version 1.2 (file pikaia.f above),
as the performance of version 1.0 is significantly
inferior to version 1.2 on many classes of problems.
In case of problem, queries should be e-mailed to
pikaia@hao.ucar.edu
While we do not formally commit to provide user support,
at this point we remain willing to answer queries; we
make no promises, however, as to response time.
Have Fun.
