mlso.events.2004 ---------------- The following is a list of activity as noted by HAO staff in Boulder, where the MLSO data are processed and analyzed. More information concerning observations at MLSO can be found at http://mlso.hao.ucar.edu. Dates are given by calendar day and by year/day-of-year. Key to abbreviations: CHIP The 1083 nm instrument at MLSO, which provides both intensity and velocity information. CME Coronal Mass Ejection Mk4 The white-light coronagraph at MLSO. MLSO Mauna Loa Solar Observatory PA Position angle (measured counterclockwise from north pole. e.g., east equator = 90 degrees, west equator = 270 degrees) PICS The H-alpha instrument at MLSO, which provides both disk observations and occulted off-limb observations. R Solar radius: e.g., 0.9R is 0.9 solar radii from sun center in the plane of the sky. UT Universal time (any notation in the form 17:33 refers to 17:33 UT). ***************************************************************************** 1/01/2004 2004d001 No data taken at MLSO today. 1/02/2004 2004d002 No data taken at MLSO today. 1/03/2004 2004d003 No data. 1/04/2004 2004d004 No data. 1/05/2004 2004d005 Mk4 data: 17:54-02:23; PICS 17:29-02:25; CHIP 17:29-02:25. This is not visible in Mk4. Some activity in prominence at PA 80 near end of day. Large filament eruption in north (~PA 0, .2-.4R) starting at 17:20 (this is probably what LASCO catches as a faint CME in the north). There is a two-ribbon flare associated with this. Unfortunately, EIT and LASCO have a data gap from 12:00-19:48. 5/25/2004 2004d146 Mk4 data: 20:32-00:49; PICS 20:32-00:46; CHIP 20:32-00:46. No coronal activity in Mk4 or LASCO. Slow streamer swelling centered at PA 250, with streamer splitting occurring at PA 240; clear in LASCO C2, but difficult to see in Mk4. In C3, the streamer splitting appears to be associated with a narrow, rapid, faint CME. Prominence at PA 230 lifts and then drains on both sides; possibly a small amount of material escapes in conjunction with CME noted above. Surging from near sunspot PA 260, 0.6R. 5/28/2004 2004d149 Mk4 data: 17:08-18:57; PICS 16:25-01:20; CHIP 16:25-01:20. Narrow, slow CME at PA 240 in Mk4; corresponds to slow CME seen in LASCO at PA 240 (see streamer swelling of 2004d148). Active, possibly erupting, filament at PA 30, 0.3R. Active filament PA 165, 0.6R. 6/03/2004 2004d155 Mk4 data: 16:40-23:42; PICS 16:32-00:32; CHIP 16:31-00:29.
