----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mauna Loa Solar Observatory Observer's Log ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sun Dec 28 17:15:04 GMT 2008 Year: 08 Doy: 363 Observer: koon WEATHER COMMENT: Sun Dec 28 17:15:09 GMT 2008 Thick cirrostratus overcast, wind=5mph from the SW, temp=32F, snow on the ground from storm a few days ago. Road was frosty above 9500', snowy above 10,000', 4WD driving above about 10,500', and very exciting beyond the gate since there weren't any tire tracks to drive on, but the ice layer was very thin and the snow is powdery underneath so traction was adequate up the steep driveway until the turn by the tent dome where I had to park and walk the rest of the way up. ___end___ COMMENT: Sun Dec 28 17:30:29 GMT 2008 Everything looks good at MLSO, I'll probably leave soon so I don't get trapped up here by ice and stuck vehicles below. It doesn't look like this thick overcast will allow observing today. ___end___ **GONG PROBLEM**: Sun Dec 28 18:05:19 GMT 2008 It looks like the instrument head bound up in some snow a few days ago which blew a fuse for the Roll Amplifier. It was a "fast blow" 10 A fuse which I replaced with a "slow blow" 10 A few as spec'd on the amp and used in the Pitch amp too. Observing again through thick overcast. ___end___ COMMENT: Sun Dec 28 18:07:45 GMT 2008 I'm going to head down to be safe. ___end___ Sun Dec 28 18:13:13 GMT 2008 MkIV
