WEATHER COMMENT: Mon Oct 17 16:45:25 GMT 1994
Cold, in cirrus overcast, light southeast breeze. Temp=41F,
frost on ground.

MKIII COMMENT: Mon Oct 17 17:16:50 GMT 1994
In order to avoid having to swap LEMO connectors each time I work
on channel 2 (to get START and DATA pulses to the DCSA), I jumpered
pins 11 to 14 and pins 12 to 15 on the flat cable between the Spar
isolator card in the micro and the Digital Isolator box in the back
of the rack. The jumpers were placed on the wire-wrap pins on the
bulkhead connector on the digital isolator box. These send the
START1 (STARTB) pulses from the line driver from the micro to the
optoisolators supplying START1 and START2 (B & C) to the spar.

WEATHER COMMENT: Mon Oct 17 17:34:15 GMT 1994
There are scattered orographic clouds forming around site.

MKIII COMMENT: Mon Oct 17 17:54:50 GMT 1994
The jumper works. START and DATA pulses now available to Opto4
DCSA.

WEATHER COMMENT: Mon Oct 17 17:56:04 GMT 1994

Hole closed up. In orographic clouds.

MKIII COMMENT: Mon Oct 17 18:09:13 GMT 1994
Aborted mkiii calibration.

COMMENT: Mon Oct 17 18:14:25 GMT 1994
Stopping observations. Cirrus and orographic clouds.

WEATHER COMMENT: Mon Oct 17 19:10:02 GMT 1994
In heavy orographic clouds again. Have been in and out of clouds
and have not been successful getting a complete mkiii scan of late.
Did get a scan earlier though.
atrol End

WEATHER COMMENT: Mon Oct 17 20:47:52 GMT 1994
In heavy fog now.

COMMENT: Mon Oct 17 20:48:21 GMT 1994
Removed some slippage in bench angle encoder and doing some priming
and painting during clouds.

WEATHER COMMENT: Mon Oct 17 22:17:47 GMT 1994
Starting to rain. Dome is closed.

WEATHER COMMENT: Tue Oct 18 00:37:46 GMT 1994
Getting thunder and hail.

MKIII COMMENT: Tue Oct 18 04:47:01 GMT 1994
Worked on the tilt plates today. The axles for the front plate were both
loose, when put in place with "15 tilt" command this plate would sometimes
stay at the "in" position. I took the mechanism apart and tightened the axles
and used some clear nail polish to help prevent the screws from loosening.
Also loosened the clutch slightly to reduce the impulsive stress loads on
everything, this may help to prevent future axle loosening. Gear lash is
still evident (1 or 2 degrees between plates) but plates are much tighter.
Related to gear lash, the plates tend to be closer to each other (smaller
angle) when the spar is pointed straight up, and they are farther apart
(wider angle) when the spar is pointed to the east and flat. So for
consistent calibrations we should do them at close to the same RA position
of the spar. Will need a few minutes in the morning to finish testing and
assembling tilt plate enclosure.
