Sat Oct 12 21:28:18 GMT 1996 dPMon Start Patrol DPMON COMMENT: Sat Oct 12 21:28:07 GMT 1996 OK, restarting Patrol. I can't see anything obviously vignetting the light path so it is probably the Daystar that is misaligned as has been a problem before. The best we can do is to optimize the vignetting for midday, and this has to be done several times during the year, when we switch away from a Coude path this problem will be solved. A good way to help align the Daystar is to stop Patrol, run Video and use the mouse to insert the filter and remove the occulter, then set the camera exposure time by first clicking on the Camera button then the Settings button, then adjust and Load different millisecond settings until you see a yellow area appear on the the image in the Camera window. Then try to adjust the Daystar position so the yellow area gets centered and hopefully more dispersed. To avoid running up and down the stairs a few dozen times maybe a camera and monitor can be set up to feed an image of the Camera window up into the dome. Its past the middle of the observing day so this will have to be done later. So this isn't accounting for the 5 degree mismatch that Alice saw. I'll try to see if the encoder is slipping on the first gear and maybe tighten the coil spring next week.
