WEATHER COMMENT: Sun Jan 24 17:42:06 GMT 1999
Mostly clear with very large thunderhead clouds just to the East, wind=20 mph
from the ESE, temp=35 F.

**PICS PROBLEM**: Sun Jan 24 18:00:17 GMT 1999
No images on the screen, it looks like the filter wheel is timing out
without being driven, I can see the "drive" and "request" LEDS light up
but none of the status LEDs are lighting up. I'll take a look upstairs.

Very low clouds are blowing over, may get foggy, pausing and closing.

WEATHER COMMENT: Sun Jan 24 18:19:45 GMT 1999
It is getting foggy now.
Sun Jan 24 18:22:14 GMT 1999 MKIII End Patrol
**PICS PROBLEM**: Sun Jan 24 18:47:49 GMT 1999
The motor for the filter wheel was disconnected, I connected it and tested
it before closing everything back up. The filter wheel works now.
WEATHER COMMENT: Sun Jan 24 19:11:08 GMT 1999
It rained for a while, now there is a light rain/fog but sun is shining
through. I may be able to observe later.
WEATHER COMMENT: Sun Jan 24 20:12:28 GMT 1999
Thin fog still blowing over, it is sunny and the sky is clear above.
WEATHER COMMENT: Sun Jan 24 21:30:11 GMT 1999
Fog/rain cleared, sky is mostly clear except for scattered cirrus and heavy
thunderclouds to the SE, very windy at 35+ gusts, very cold outside.

COMMENT: Sun Jan 24 21:32:26 GMT 1999
Restarted observations.
**PICS PROBLEM**: Sun Jan 24 21:39:23 GMT 1999
Still no images, I'll pause and go check out the camera connections.

**PICS PROBLEM**: Sun Jan 24 22:10:40 GMT 1999
I opened up the instrument again and found that the camera was connected,
and that light was coming down to the camera, and that the shutter was
working. I tested the shutter in Video mode and could hear and see it
open and close, but the Camera window looks the same way it did when I tried
Patrol, it is gray with white horizontal noise streaks that move around
with each exposure/image.
COMMENT: Sun Jan 24 22:14:35 GMT 1999
I'm bumping the spar now and then and affecting the observations of the
other instruments as I work on the PICS.

**PSPT PROBLEM**: Sun Jan 24 22:23:40 GMT 1999
The last image is vignetted, similar to the problem I had last week, can
only see left sliver of the sun and that is moved into the middle of
the image area. Closing down due to nearby clouds.
WEATHER COMMENT: Sun Jan 24 22:26:52 GMT 1999
A huge wall of clouds is approaching from the East.
**PICS PROBLEM**: Sun Jan 24 22:28:19 GMT 1999
The Camera window didn't change despite taking images with the PICS cover
open, and with many different combinations of filter wheel positions and
exposure times and objective wheel positions and filter stage positions
and occulting wheel positions. Maybe the recent software and/or
hardware changes are incompatible with something. I will close it back
up, I didn't get a chance to do the Halle Filter Test because of this
problem.
MKIV COMMENT: Sun Jan 24 22:36:20 GMT 1999
Unfortunately the cirrostratus moved in before the calibration ended.
I didn't get a chance to do the Height Mask Tests due to poor weather.
WEATHER COMMENT: Sun Jan 24 22:37:41 GMT 1999
The cirrostratus has arrived and the lower clouds aren't far behind, closing
down for the day.
