Temp = 46F. Heavy thundershowers and flooding in Hilo, Puna and Kau due to a tropical disturbance passing to south of island. Observations unlikely as conditions are forecast to remain unchanged throughout the day. COMMENT: Mon Sep 19 17:05:05 GMT 1994 Power surges occurring as power outages are being reported in various areas of the island. Chronolog indicates outages here long enough to scramble the display. Sparcstation was found rebooted. FAX spit out two power failure reports. Mon Sep 19 17:09:03 GMT 1994: Filemark COMMENT: Mon Sep 19 19:16 HST 1994 Darryl Koon unable to get into town due to closure of Highway 11 due to the flash flooding on the big island. Satellite photos of island indicates probability of clearing was nil so it was likely a good decision to abandon observations for the day for staff safety reasons.
