Mauna Loa Solar Observatory Observer's Log ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wed Nov 9 16:59:28 GMT 1994 Year: 94 Doy: 313 Observer: yasukawa WEATHER COMMENT: Wed Nov 9 16:59:47 GMT 1994 cold, clear, brisk southeast wind. Temp= 43F. LOW-L COMMENT: Wed Nov 9 17:07:06 GMT 1994 There is some confusion about which tape has been running in the LOWL. Tape 94128 was restarted on DOY309. DOY 310 log says it was running in unit 0. DOY 311 log indicates L00129 running in unit 1 and DOY312 log says L00129 running in unit 1. What happened to L00128 in unit 0? It is in unit 0 still this morning and data is writing to it. L00129 is in unit 1 and is popped out. I will eject both tapes and send them back. Loading L00130 into unit 0 and L00131 into unit 1 and rebooting LOWL. Wed Nov 9 17:19:11 GMT 1994: Patrol Start LOW-L COMMENT: Wed Nov 9 17:19:19 GMT 1994 Received the ND filters so I will wait until I install them before restarting the LOWL with the new tapes. The other question raised by this morning's discrepancy is why L00128 was still in drive 0 if as logs indicated, drive 1 was writing? Filter was a hair too large, or the slot a hair too narrow. Had to grind the filter down with knife-sharpening stone a bit to get it to fit. Opened up the iris from 11mm to 12mm and reassembled the LOWL. It seems to be running OK, with tape going onto L00130 in unit 0. All parameters in the green. DPMON COMMENT: Wed Nov 9 20:23:27 GMT 1994 Bright prominence or flare at PA 257 that wasn't there before I started work on LOWL. DPMON COMMENT: Wed Nov 9 20:27:50 GMT 1994 PA 257 surging. RV approximately 1.1 MKIII COMMENT: Wed Nov 9 20:52:44 GMT 1994 Did not see any changes due to surge so stopping MKIII to do some chan 2 alignment tests.
