Mauna Loa Solar Observatory Observer's Log ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wed Jul 12 16:30:40 GMT 1995 Year: 95 Doy: 193 Observer: yasukawa console Jul 12 16:27 WEATHER COMMENT: Wed Jul 12 16:30:56 GMT 1995 Cool, clear, light southeast wind. DPMON COMMENT: Wed Jul 12 16:31:12 GMT 1995 MKIII tape wasn't popped out of DPMON exabyte drive again this morning. Manually ejected it and loaded P-tape before starting up Trot program. Wed Jul 12 16:37:13 GMT 1995: Patrol Start COMMENT: Wed Jul 12 16:42:46 GMT 1995 Guiding reset. Repointed and reset guider declination . WEATHER COMMENT: Wed Jul 12 16:47:46 GMT 1995 There is a thin cirrus overcast, sky looks clear but there is a bright halo around sun and P+S loaf is very high. Wed Jul 12 17:02:00 GMT 1995: Calibration WEATHER COMMENT: Wed Jul 12 17:26:38 GMT 1995 Still in thin cirrus, but it is thinning, P+S amplitude half of what it was this morning at startup. COMMENT: Wed Jul 12 17:29:08 GMT 1995 Alice indicated that the reason for tape not popping out was due to: 1. Veer (time controlling computer at HAO) being down 2. puu being down for disk upgrade. We should be back to normal today--should pop out tonight. Wed Jul 12 18:02:03 GMT 1995: Calibration WEATHER COMMENT: Wed Jul 12 18:42:33 GMT 1995 Thin halo still visible around sun, sky polarization appears minimal, P+S loaf about 2X normal, or around 1/3X amplitude it was this morning. Wed Jul 12 19:01:58 GMT 1995: Calibration COMMENT: Wed Jul 12 19:41:33 GMT 1995 Opening top of dome. WEATHER COMMENT: Wed Jul 12 20:00:25 GMT 1995 Sky getting bright again. Guider was drifting a bit, reset the declination. Wed Jul 12 20:02:05 GMT 1995: Calibration DPMON COMMENT: Wed Jul 12 20:19:50 GMT 1995 Static crash. Fixing manually. Wed Jul 12 20:22:02 GMT 1995: Patrol End Wed Jul 12 20:24:06 GMT 1995: Patrol Start COMMENT: Wed Jul 12 20:44:26 GMT 1995 Sky is very bright with thin cirrus. Stopping data acquisition to check out spare guider declination motors. MKIII COMMENT: Wed Jul 12 20:49:01 GMT 1995 Hmmmm.... SCAN-LOG indicates start at 1848. Actual startup I thought, was before the sun cleared the dome. There should at least be the calibration on the log as I did answer "Write to tape?" with a Y. 11/44 must have deleted the scan-log again. This problem hasn't surfaced for a while. WEATHER COMMENT: Wed Jul 12 20:56:13 GMT 1995 In orographic clouds. Cannot test guider motors if it is cloudy. Will try again next time there is a fairly uniform cirrus overcast.
