CHIP COMMENT: Thu May 29 16:34:59 GMT 1997 CHIP Exabyte drive ejected MKIII overnight tape partially. Loop was still captured by mechanisms inside, eating it upon removal. Had to remove the loop with a plastic screwdriver. Amber LED was flashing. Cycled power and loaded new CHIP tape. Upon start of NEW DAY, I got numerous Couldn't open /dev/rmt/Ombn, No tape or write protected messages on Console. Ejecting tape and cycling power again. POST took a very long time, but after I came down from my flaked-out dome reconfigure (took a long time as I was still preoccupied) I noticed POST indication had gone away. Loaded tape and crossed fingers, looked OK, started New Day and got past the tape load. Started Patrol. CHIP seems to be working now. CHIP COMMENT: Thu May 29 20:43:58 GMT 1997 CHIP is still working. Last thing I did was disconnect the cable and terminator from the drive and press eject. No tape inside. Loaded a tape after reconnecting cable and terminator (power off while disconnecting and connecting) and waiting a very long time for the POST indication to go away. COMMENT: Thu May 29 20:47:40 GMT 1997 Going down to GONG again, this time to do weekly preventive maintenance.
