There is a tight halo around the sun and MKIII image is highly polarized. MCC monitor in standby mode. Run would not work because MCC was down. Fail LEDs on 2533, 4105, and 3125 were lit. Did all the usual steps but nothing worked to correct problem. Steps included, cycling power, resetting MCC, reseating cables, pulling and inspecting VME cards, rebooting kii and nene. After David called, we checked serial connections and ethernet connections and tried reset again. This time MCC came up. The noteable difference was that the green LEDs on the processor card did not blink as they normally do when the processor is running duing the first couple of reset attempts. We will need to watch that diagnostic as it may indicate that there is an impending hard failure in the processor in our future. The RUN and VME LEds should be flashing. MKIII started at 1731 while troubleshooting. CHIP COMMENT: Mon Jun 2 18:14:28 GMT 1997 Tape problem yesterday must have been either dirty heads or bad tape. So far I am not seeing tape i/o write errors on the console. CHIP COMMENT: Mon Jun 2 18:18:38 GMT 1997 Had swapped the printer with the MCC serial port on kii to do diagnostic with alakai (MCC). Swapped it back to original configuration. COMMENT: Mon Jun 2 18:20:26 GMT 1997 There may have also been a localized network problem that caused the MCC to not load its program from kii this morning. While we were troubleshooting, GONG xterm lost its connection with its processor in the GONG shed. WEATHER COMMENT: Mon Jun 2 18:34:25 GMT 1997 Cirrus thinning, high polarization seen on MKIII diminishing.
