I told Charlie about the roof leakage yesterday, he said he probably won't be up here until Monday. Power went out also, I reset the OCP clock, restarted the NOAA computer and the GONG terminal. The power outage caused the unit to shut off as usual. Head was stowed pointed down. Removed L00470 from drive #1 and installed L00472 in drive #1. Restarted observations. COMMENT: Sat Aug 16 17:26:34 GMT 1997 Network is down, have to use modem. LOW-L COMMENT: Sat Aug 16 17:45:10 GMT 1997 Program stalls everytime it gets to the first "Frame Grab" after reseting or cycling power to the computer. Investigating. Sat Aug 16 18:01:02 GMT 1997 dPMon Flat COMMENT: Sat Aug 16 17:58:20 GMT 1997 Back from GONG shelter, nothing smells burnt or looks catastrophically wrong down there, but the instrument isn't pointing at the sun. It looks like it crashed around 23:49 ut yesterday afternoon. Probably some rebooting and power cycling needs to be done. Will wait for advice from the GONG people, I just tried calling the emergency beeper to see if that works. The new FED phone system is down, that is why the GONG guys can't login and check the shelter (the network is down also). So I had to use the Cellular phone to call Dan and try some things, I guess we will be getting a big phone bill next time, about 20 minutes worth of long distance on the Cellular phone. I rebooted the Data and the Instrument and the Weather computers, didn't help, still have red flags all over the display and the instrument isn't pointing. They will need to call in and check the status once the phone system is fixed, I will call in to the phone company now to have them fix the problem. Dan said the overlap from Learmont and Big Bear should prevent the loss of continuous data anyway. COMMENT: Sat Aug 16 20:12:59 GMT 1997 Hawaiian Tel is coming up today, someone called them around 7:30 last night to report the problem. They said the lightning wrecked about a dozen "channel cards". Trying to use our other telephone line for the modem, so far it doesn't work for some reason.
