This is a test to see if drive #1 (temp. drive #0) still is being used for data when most of the program crashes or unwanted tape ejections happen. If this problem is still ongoing I will try to switch cables and terminator next to try to positively rule out other possible causes of the problems associated with drive #1, such as interface or programming problems. So for now I'll try to remember to call the normal drive #1 the new name of temp drive #0, and the old drive #0 is now temp drive #1. Another problem has been occuring lately where the file count for the last tape in old drive #0 was being reset, this unknown problem hasn't happened for a long time and when it did happen it was found that the tape wasn't rewound when the file count was reset, so the danger is that the tape will be at its end and it will look like data are still going to it but actually data are lost. We'll see if this new problem is ongoing. I removed L00509 from old drive #0 and cleaned that drive before installing L00511 there. Data are currently going to L00510 in temp drive #0.
