But the program crashed instead of switching over, the screen was gray and the instrument was stowed. L00512 was still inside temp drive #0 but was apparently unused. I removed the tapes from the drives, turned off power to the computer and the drives, switched the cables and the terminator on the drives so that temp drives are setup exactly opposite from their normal configuration. So now if temp drive #0 still gives problems several times it is very likely that there is a problem with that drive rather than the interfaces or software. Previously I had only switched the switch assignments on the backs of the drives but now the complete "switch" is in place. L00512 is taking data in temp drive #0, L00513 is installed in temp drive #1. PSPT COMMENT: Sun May 3 20:21:41 GMT 1998 I was going to stop the program due to clouds, but when I was able to get a "q" to go through the program responded by appearing to try to continue instead of quitting like it was supposed to do. PSPT COMMENT: Sun May 3 20:48:03 GMT 1998 I'm not sure if any data were taken since my last message, but the guider unlocked messages started coming back again. This time I type q then hit Return and the program ended right away with the psp> prompt. So I used Obs to exit observations. CHIP COMMENT: Sun May 3 20:52:50 GMT 1998 Thick cloud mass moving over, pausing. Sun May 3 20:55:34 GMT 1998 CHIP CHIP End Patrol PICS COMMENT: Sun May 3 21:23:07 GMT 1998 We have been seeing what appeared to be vignetting noticeable on the West sides of the PICS and occulted images for a month or so. I found that the new O2A is indeed vignetting the light as evidenced by a spillover of light off the edge of the lens towards the spar Pier. The M2 mirror before that shows the light to be slightly off center in the same direction but there is no vignetting there. The first mirror after the O2A shows light spilling over on the same side as the O2A, this is the new mirror that directs light out of the spar. I haven't noticed any vignetting earlier in the day. I'll try to follow the direction of the lightpath cross-section throughout a normal day, probably next Wednesday.
