The program crashed the first time I tried the change so I had to swap some tapes. Removed L00552 from drive #0 and moved L00553 from drive#1 to drive #0, and installed L00554 in drive #1. He will write up the procedure and send it to us so that we can do it ourselves next time this happens. I asked him to set the software back to automatic dome rotation and he did. So now the control cable is connected again and we have to leave the dome switch in the on position to allow for automatic guiding. This will work again at this time of year due to the sun moving to the south of our lattitude again. We talked about having to use the Run command several times after a crash to get the cap to open, this is because there is no way for the software to know what position the cap is in, so at the start of the Run task it assumes the cap was already closed and just moves it to the opposite limit. The way to avoid this problem is to type in "cap close" on the PC after a crash and before typing "Run" on the Sparcstation. Also had a problem around 2100 where the circuit breaker for the dome rotator was tripped and so the dome wouldn't point and the observing program wouldn't continue. This happens every now and then we hear a clicking sound in the controller box where all the relays are, if it goes on long enough the breaker trips. After reseting the breakrer I had to disconnect and reconnect the computer control cable a few times to get the dome to rotate in the correct direction, but it stopped a t the correct position.
