Sent a Trouble message, but have not received a reply yet. In the meantime eudora successfully logged int the POP account and downloaded all my trapped mail. COMMENT: Mon Jul 13 17:56:26 GMT 1998 FYI--7/9-7/10 network outage: Network outage was caused by a denial-of-service attack on UH, also known as "smurfing". UH handles all traffic for State, County, and Federal internet traffic as well as their own traffic and probably a few private ISPs. UH thinks that the attack may have been orchestrated by someone with a grudge against the university. The attack was caused by redirection of an enormous amount of internet traffic thru the UH system which clogged the system and ground it to a halt for 24 hours. FBI is investigating this as there was intentional disruption of federal operations. GONG COMMENT: Mon Jul 13 18:46:18 GMT 1998 Going down to GONG to do weekly preventive maintenance. Since we no longer have the Plessey and MUPAC interface box which used to be very sensitive to static discharge, I decided to trash the old carpet. If it is determined that we have a static problem without it, we can move to replace it, otherwise, I think we can probably do without it.
