COMMENT: Sun Jan 21 21:18:29 GMT 2001 I added a little more weight to the back end of the spar than the weight Eric added when he noticed guiding problems last week, I also tightened the Dec clamp a little. It is holding steady but the spar Dec meter readout is not centered, it is near the bottom, Eric said he noticed this last week too. COMMENT: Sun Jan 21 21:28:33 GMT 2001 The dec guisding is still bad. I moved it through its range and didn't notice any binding. Resetting the dec guider and repointing is only a temporary fix. Pausing instruments while I check this deeper. I tried changing balance and tightening the dec clutch but that didn't help. Using the PICS video feature I can see that the apparent motion of the sun is northward, that means the front end could be dropping Very Slowly, or maybe the dec isn't driving at all and the apparent motion is due to polar axis misalignment that becomes apparent when only the RA is tracking. I guess the dec could be driving very slowly off the sun, but I doubt that because the dec meter readout also goes out of range as the dec guiding goes off. I'm running out of time today and can't work overtime so this will probably be a problem tomorrow, but since this happened to Eric earlier and was fine for me after that (until today) this could be intermittent.
