MKIV COMMENT: Sun Jul 14 21:35:51 GMT 2002 I left the instruments running while I very quickly removed the O1 and cleaned part of it, a drop of water that was on the edge of the lens had run across about 4 or 5 inches of the lens near the edge but extending in up to about 2" towards the center leaving a chord-like streak. I noticed the signal got large during one part of the scan and there were noise hits coming in at about 1 or 2 per second, when I checked the lens I saw the new streak and a bug crawling on the lens. I'm not what caused what noise, but the first scan after I installed the lens looks great and noiseless, but now the noise hits are back again. The noise related to a sector of the scan is gone, that must have been due to the streak I removed. WEATHER COMMENT: Sun Jul 14 21:44:30 GMT 2002 Orographic clouds are moving in now. MKIV COMMENT: Sun Jul 14 21:47:58 GMT 2002 Those orographic clouds moved in very fast, I hope I got enough scans after the second cleaning. Check the first scan after the cleaning, it is very nice, at 2135 UT. I'm not sure why it got so noisy after that, I just checked the lens again and it looks fine and no bugs are on it. MKIV COMMENT: Sun Jul 14 21:50:34 GMT 2002 It looks like the scans (or the parts that get taken between clouds) are looking noiseless again. I don't really understand this, maybe there were some bugs or debris blowing by in the wind that caused all those noise hits earlier. MKIV COMMENT: Sun Jul 14 21:56:14 GMT 2002 The scan at 2150 UT looks decent too, between clouds. Sun Jul 14 22:23:51 GMT 2002 PICS End Patrol PICS COMMENT: Sun Jul 14 22:20:05 GMT 2002 There's a piece of dust visible on the South-Central area of the disk, I had planned to clean that away with the air blower but I can't see the images well due to clouds so that will have to wait. The 2nd cleaning and clouds ruined my plans. I usually use the Video Mode (I think) of the observing program options, I set the exposures long and block the light, then I puff air on the CCD with the small air blower compressor setup as the shutter opens - kind of tricky but it works well.
