The telescope pointed well enough to avoid doing an ephemeris calibration despite remounting it on the new platform mount yesterday. The mount bolts need to be swapped with the new SS bolts and nuts and washers that I bought yesterday afternoon, I put those on the platform beneath the pedestal. A guider ephemeris calibration can wait until after the new bolts and platform brace are installed, probably tomorrow - I need to help David with other projects today. The dome is pointing well too. This new mount should allow pointing the dome according to the ephemeris most or all of the year without any included offsets; the new mount also allows better alignment of the telescope polar axis. MKIV COMMENT: Thu Aug 29 17:26:35 GMT 2002 David is experimenting with the O1 guider on the 1717 UT scans, powered up for 1717 and 1720 scans then turned back off (as usual) after that. Powered on briefly during the 1723 scan. Actually observing with constant gain vs height. 12000 for p, 14000 for s Also changed pix_offset p from 23 to 27 for better difference Back to regular gain from tables. Balance looks really good after all this time, except for the lowest and most elevated heights. COMMENT: Thu Aug 29 19:48:09 GMT 2002 Extended the dome slot. Maybe an offset can be added to get it more centered in the slot. In other words the dome is slightly lagging behind the telescope pointing. MKIV COMMENT: Thu Aug 29 22:29:32 GMT 2002 Several tests were done on the O1 guiding and video was taken of various areas and components of mk4 telescope, David will report on this later.
