Sniffed around and did not detect burned electronics but smell was more like burning organic material, like hair or a bug. Decided to start up and investigate further. MK4 scans started up with missing inner "corona" -- a great clue. Upon looking at the slots, I see an incinerated moth right on the slot. Stopped scan to work on removing debris. **MKIV PROBLEM**: Wed May 21 17:01:41 GMT 2003 Removed O1 guider sensor assembly and vacuumed incinerated moth. Looked like it was in the wrong place when I pointed the spar at the sun. MKIV COMMENT: Wed May 21 17:03:12 GMT 2003 Centered O1 before starting up scans. I can feel binding every two turns of the manual hook. I backed the motor away from the gearbox coupling and tried the hook again. I can still feel the binding. With the motor backed off, I still cannot get the motor to run either direction. This situation points to three possible conditions-- motor burned out again, although there is no indication of overheating and I don't think either Darryl or I let the motor run in stall condition for very long; motor is wired incorrectly, new motor wiring is not the same as old motor wiring, although Darryl indicated he figured it out yesterday; voltage is low due to possible damage to switch next to motor. Wed May 21 19:45:47 GMT 2003 MKIV End Cal **PSPT PROBLEM**: Wed May 21 20:02:03 GMT 2003 Voltages are OK at motor as far as 115V when direction and limit switches are concerned. There is a residual 60-70 V on the neutral. Suspect bad capacitor. **PSPT PROBLEM**: Wed May 21 20:34:27 GMT 2003 Found the problem to the new motor not starting. Starting capacitor, Dayton part number CAP 4X060, an Aero M 145-174 MFD 110/125 VAC capacitor, blew its coolant or insulating compound out into the junction box next to the motor. Removed the capacitor and cleaned out some of the gunk from the wires and the inside of the box. Took drive apart on the ground, lubed the drier parts and reassembled it. The binding appeared gone. Re-mounting of the drive is incomplete. Will finish the job next chance. The hard part of mounting the assembly at the top of the dome is done.
