It just finished. A NEW TAPE HAS BEEN PUT INTO KAIEE DLT DRIVE, Wed Oct 8 17:13:47 GMT 2003 **PSPT PROBLEM**: Wed Oct 8 17:36:15 GMT 2003 CaK image is overexposed and Blue image is moderately underexposed. Red image looks OK. Stopping to check things out. **PSPT PROBLEM**: Wed Oct 8 17:57:22 GMT 2003 I ran Shutdown so I could reset PC in an attempt to troubleshoot the exposure problem. Atht e completion of the Shutdown program, the pspt hard drive's led began furiously blinking, indicating that the data may be transferring out. Let Bunny know. The funny exposures appear consistent to the filter as mentioned above indicating that the shutter is not inconsistent in operation (sticking either direction) otherwise overexposures and under exposures would be random. Checking out filter positions. That's the good news. The bad news is the problem is the ND filter on the CaK filter shattered into 5 major pieces. I found 3 pieces inside the filter wheel compartment and retrieved 2 more pieces from inside the focus tube. These pieces were the cause of the vignetting on the Blue and Red images. Had to turn the spar upside down to get the pieces out of the tube. I will try matching the ND filter as close as possible to a spare on hand up here and Randy may need to go thru an exposure exercise to get images back to the intensity of the former images. **MLSO PROBLEM**: Wed Oct 8 19:20:24 GMT 2003 Wind causing tarp on Carrol spar housing to flap a lot. Tightend down the securing ropes that had worked its way loose. **MLSO PROBLEM**: Wed Oct 8 19:25:54 GMT 2003 Hoike not updating mk4 animations. The others are animating. **PSPT PROBLEM**: Wed Oct 8 19:50:37 GMT 2003 None of the spare ND filters are anywhere near the same density as the broken CaK filter. I alerted Randy, Mark, and Kim of the situation. Shutting down. MKIV COMMENT: Wed Oct 8 22:55:05 GMT 2003 Centered O1. **PSPT PROBLEM**: Wed Oct 8 23:41:29 GMT 2003 Further investigation into the cause of the ND filter breakage revealed that it is highly suspect that the ND filter just fell out of the holder and down into the telescope. It was held in by two pieces of photographic tape along its edge and the tape could have failed. Retaining lip on the holder was on the upward side of the filter. There was no retaining ring on the down side of the holder.
