When closing the shutter with the slot facing east, there wer groaing noises, probably coming from the roller bearings or the side tracks. The motor stalled at the very end of travel and there appeared to be about an inch or inch-an-a-half gap between the shutter and the flap (covered by shutter overhang lip). I could hear the motor still trying to overcome torque (hum, no turning). Turned motor off quickly. I rotated dome to normal stow position, slot facing south, and opened and closed dome. Dome shutter went up and down OK, closed all the way to contact with the flap. I recall that I closed dome as a precaution with the slot facing east on DOY 136, the day the motor burned. The motor did not drive the slot all the way down to contact the flap that day, either. Until we can determine what is causing the binding when facing east and fix the problem I suggest we do a Shutdown before closing dome so that the dome is in stow azimuth, or in an emergency dome closure due to fog or rain, the observer needs to stay with the switch so that he can turn it off as soon as the motor stalls.
