We came up with a plan that should work, they need to get it approved. We'll need to provide 7 units of rack space (above current router would be good) for their fiber terminal and various panels and rectifier, and wall space (behind GONG terminal) for the wallmount distribution center where the 72 strand single mode micro fiber cable terminates. Outside they'll run a new special conduit along our old conduit near MLSO then bypass the new NOAA building where the current copper T1 cable detours, instead they'll run above ground for about 10' to the box to the West of the blue Butler Building and from there follow the old copper cable run into the SW corner of the Keeling building ceiling then over the drop-ceiling and out the NE conduit to the HawTel radio shack where they'll have another set of new rack mounted equipment. This is the plan as it stands now, if approved then outside cable running could start in a few weeks and inside equipment installation could be a few weeks later. It looks like we'll have the HawTel part of the installation done by the end of the year. A few more interesting facts, their radio link can handle an OC3 (not an OC1 as we were told earlier) so there is apparently plenty of room for more bandwidth increases in the future, and if we were located closer to the shack then they could have just run a CAT5 cable for our connection, that's what they may do for NOAA at their Keeling building later. ___end___ Thu Oct 28 22:29:54 GMT 2010: PSPT Start Patrol Thu Oct 28 23:00:38 GMT 2010 CHIP LSD Thu Oct 28 23:02:28 GMT 2010 CHIP End LSD Thu Oct 28 23:02:36 GMT 2010 CHIP BiasLSD Thu Oct 28 23:03:16 GMT 2010 CHIP End BiasLSD Thu Oct 28 23:03:15 GMT 2010 H-ALPHA End Patrol Thu Oct 28 23:03:35 GMT 2010 CHIP Bias Thu Oct 28 23:04:20 GMT 2010 CHIP End Bias Thu Oct 28 23:04:28 GMT 2010 CHIP ReStart Patrol Thu Oct 28 23:08:35 GMT 2010 H-ALPHA Start Patrol **H-ALPHA PROBLEM COMMENT BY DARRYL**: Thu Oct 28 23:01:45 GMT 2010 Images are looking funny, time is gone from upper right corner of some of the disk images and exposure seems to vary on limb images. Power was coming in to panel at upper right but not leaving switch at lower left inside the box. You open the box by unscrewing knurled knobs at top and bottom then use a large flat blade screwdriver to turn silver disk with slot near the door handle and turn handle to unlatch (at same time maybe), then there is one more silver disk with slot that needs to be turned at the ON/OFF switch to open the door fully, this can be done w/o turning off the ON/OFF main switch if done as I described. Inside at upper left there is a Cooper Bussman 30A capable fuse holder with a plastic handle that can be pulled out and down to disengage the fuse that blew out, do this with main breaker OFF and only if power isn't coming out of the automatic switch (big black box) at the bottom left and going out to MLSO on those large cables. You can then remove and replace the fuse if it is bad, there are spare fuses in the box at the bottom inside this big Square-D box. The fuse connects to the timer that is used to decide when to turn power back on after a power glitch, it actually caused rather than prevented a problem this time, hopefully this was an anomaly. I'm still trying to figure out if everything is running correctly. ___end___ Thu Oct 28 23:58:03 GMT 2010 MKIV Start Patrol Thu Oct 28 23:59:03 GMT 2010 CHIP Start Patrol **CHIP PROBLEM COMMENT BY DARRYL**: Fri Oct 29 00:00:12 GMT 2010 Crashed due to power outage, but Sparc kept running. ___end___ **MKIV PROBLEM COMMENT BY DARRYL**: Fri Oct 29 00:00:36 GMT 2010 Crashed due to power outage but Sparc kept running. ___end___ Fri Oct 29 00:15:53 GMT 2010: PSPT Start Patrol **CoMP PROBLEM COMMENT BY DARRYL**: Fri Oct 29 00:01:12 GMT 2010 Crashed due to power outage, all Pulizzi channels had to be turned on, the PC had to be unplugged and plugged back in and turned on to actually turn on. ___end___ Fri Oct 29 00:26:25 GMT 2010: PSPT Abort Patrol Fri Oct 29 00:26:40 GMT 2010 CHIP End Patrol Fri Oct 29 00:27:51 GMT 2010 MKIV End Patrol **GENERAL PROBLEM COMMENT BY DARRYL**: Fri Oct 29 00:28:16 GMT 2010 It looks like all the instruments are OK, the UPS kept the instrument Sparcs going well.
