----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mauna Loa Solar Observatory Observer's Log ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sun Nov 20 17:35:51 GMT 2011 Year: 11 Doy: 324 Observer: koon WEATHER COMMENT: Sun Nov 20 17:35:52 GMT 2011 Medium to thick altocumulus overcast, no obs until clouds thin out, temp=39F wind=7mph from the South. ___end___ NOTE BY DARRYL: Sun Nov 20 19:29:16 GMT 2011 I checked the large Gaspro dewar that Ben and Allen commented on, it does have a slight hiss coming from the relief valve tree and ice around the neck, but so does the MLO dewar. This may be normal for our conditions, I've noticed the ice before when the humidity is high as it has been lately. The gauge needle looks to be at the same place that Ben mentioned Friday, let's keep monitoring the gauge for now, if we need more LN2 there is some in the MLO dewar and I don't see anyone scheduled to come and use it before the next delivery of LN2. I've noticed those black tick marks that people have drawn on the gauges before, sometimes they help and sometimes the regular gauge is more accurate and the tick marks should be erased. Maybe we can erase those marks if they are inaccurate, and we might be able to use our 250 pound scale to correlate a certain liquid level (maybe 1/4) to a certain weight for our future reference. I'll work on these improvements. ___end___ GONG COMMENT BY DARRYL: Sun Nov 20 19:47:21 GMT 2011 Unstowed and running. ___end___ WEATHER COMMENT: Sun Nov 20 19:47:35 GMT 2011 Clouds are thinning, starting some instruments. ___end___ Sun Nov 20 19:53:28 GMT 2011 H-ALPHA Start Patrol Sun Nov 20 19:53:36 GMT 2011 CHIP Start Patrol Sun Nov 20 19:55:05 GMT 2011: PSPT Start Patrol **PSPT PROBLEM COMMENT BY DARRYL**: Sun Nov 20 19:55:13 GMT 2011 Stalled during guider pointing initialization of telescope, ran KillPspt, did a Startup again, typed in exp several times where it stalled at the 3 dark test frames, then it continued normally. ___end___ WEATHER COMMENT: Sun Nov 20 19:57:09 GMT 2011 Too much cirrostratus for coronal instruments, low clouds are also creeping in from the East. ___end___ NOTE BY DARRYL: Sun Nov 20 20:18:09 GMT 2011 Just had a little earthquake, spar moved off in Declination but is back to normal now. ___end___ Sun Nov 20 20:52:21 GMT 2011 CHIP End Patrol Sun Nov 20 20:52:40 GMT 2011: PSPT Abort Patrol WEATHER COMMENT: Sun Nov 20 20:52:40 GMT 2011 Low clouds have moved in thick and dark, pausing instruments and closing domes. ___end___ Sun Nov 20 20:54:45 GMT 2011 H-ALPHA End Patrol NOTE BY DARRYL: Sun Nov 20 22:31:54 GMT 2011 I removed the Mk4 O1 and took picture of its mount, and also took pictures of the spare empty O1 mount and the metal O1 blank.
