----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mauna Loa Solar Observatory Observer's Log ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wed Mar 18 17:29:41 GMT 2015 Year: 15 Doy: 077 Observer: berkey WEATHER COMMENT: berkey: Wed Mar 18 17:29:43 GMT 2015 temp 45f, wind 5mph from south, clear skies above w/strong inversion keeping vog below 8,500ft. ___end___ KCOR COMMENT BY berkey: Wed Mar 18 17:30:21 GMT 2015 switched the kcor occulter to 1006.9 Changes made in the kcor header. ___end___ KCOR COMMENT BY berkey: Wed Mar 18 17:35:23 GMT 2015 w/smaller occulter kcor-to-sgs alignment has a bigger dec offset then we have seen in a while 60 vs the 45 from yesterday. As far as I can tell the occulter is well seated. ___end___ CoMP COMMENT BY berkey: Wed Mar 18 17:36:53 GMT 2015 There is not enough RA range to align the comp occulter. SOme where about 60000 counts on the stage the occulter apparently stopped moving on the alignment image. Re homeing stage. ___end___ Wed Mar 18 17:50:01 GMT 2015 COMP Start Patrol CoMP COMMENT BY berkey: Wed Mar 18 17:48:00 GMT 2015 Looks like the problem was the comp occulter/light dump cone were not completely seated into the titanium post. This got the occulter cocked slightly to the east. After reseating the occulter/cone into the titanium post the alignment the alignment came nicely. I didnt need to reset the actuator controller. ___end___ KCOR COMMENT BY berkey: Wed Mar 18 18:20:21 GMT 2015 Took a lot of time to get kcor to come up in the proper state this morning. Took almost 1/2 an hour of stop/restarting labview to get things happy. ___end___ Wed Mar 18 18:21:44 GMT 2015 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol Wed Mar 18 19:27:33 GMT 2015 KCOR End Patrol Wed Mar 18 19:27:34 GMT 2015 KCOR Start Calibration script: c:\kcor\mlso-calibration22deg.ini Wed Mar 18 19:43:37 GMT 2015 KCOR End Calibration Script Wed Mar 18 19:43:53 GMT 2015 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol Wed Mar 18 19:43:54 GMT 2015 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol Wed Mar 18 20:47:52 GMT 2015 COMP End Patrol Wed Mar 18 20:47:54 GMT 2015 COMP Start Patrol Wed Mar 18 21:17:49 GMT 2015 KCOR End Patrol Wed Mar 18 21:18:02 GMT 2015 COMP End Patrol GENERAL OBSERVATORY COMMENT BY berkey: Wed Mar 18 21:27:09 GMT 2015 moved lower shutter down. Nash at NOAA was helping me load some crates for shipping so I didnt respond in time and we got some dome occulting on comp and shabar. ___end___ Wed Mar 18 22:19:00 GMT 2015 COMP Start Patrol GENERAL OBSERVATORY COMMENT BY berkey: Wed Mar 18 22:16:52 GMT 2015 With Kcor calpol and diffuser in the beam the spar around 11:30 today (what ever RA-DEC that is is), the spar was out of balance enough that the DEC clutch slipped and the telescopes pointed north until the spar hit the pier. I am not really sure what changed that we had the problem today instead of last week/last month etc. Nothing we did in the RA drive work or Kcor work should have changed the DEC balance. To fix this I tightened the DEC clutch slightly (it is very sentive) until the spar stopped fallign to the north with the foreoptics in the beam. Note that clutch is super senstive initally I did a 1/16 of a turn and was unable to move the spar in DEC. I was then able to loosen it slightly and I can repoint it and things dont seem to move under gravity. In observing mode ("fore opticsc out of the beam) the balance should be much better. ___end___ Wed Mar 18 22:24:21 GMT 2015 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol KCOR COMMENT BY berkey: Wed Mar 18 22:22:37 GMT 2015 Changed the way Kcor fits headers learn about their TCAMID's Instead of being hard coded, we now parse c:\kcor\kcoconfig.ini for the 2 and 6 lines to pull out the camera serial number. This used to be hard coded information. TODO later we should think about pulling the [T|R]CAMLUTs out of the kcoconfig. And then consider pulling other things like CALPOLID, DIFFSRID,O1ID,OCCLTRID,FILTERID,OBSSWID,MODLTRID (and anything I am forgetting) in c:\kcor\hwconfig.ini or something similar. ___end___ Thu Mar 19 00:21:56 GMT 2015 KCOR End Patrol Thu Mar 19 00:22:22 GMT 2015 COMP End Patrol GENERAL OBSERVATORY COMMENT BY berkey: Thu Mar 19 00:32:54 GMT 2015 Sky brightness and particle count has been pretty high since noon. ___end___ GENERAL OBSERVATORY COMMENT BY berkey: Thu Mar 19 00:33:32 GMT 2015 Headed to fedex to send some big boxes back to Greg. ___end___
