----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mauna Loa Solar Observatory Observer's Log ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sun Feb 12 16:24:49 GMT 2017 Year: 17 Doy: 043 Observer: waters WEATHER COMMENT: waters: Sun Feb 12 16:24:54 GMT 2017 Temp is 36F with windspeed at about 12-17mph from the South-Southwest. Road was frosty aroun 10,500ft but at 11,000ft the road turned a more bumpy icey. Ended parking at the public parking as the car could not make it to the NOAA parking lot. The board walk was icey, had to walk on the lava and in some areas, there is quite a bit of snow but otherwise a light dusting. The door facing the South and West are frozen shut (the lock on the door to the upper dome has ice coming out of it). The sky is clear and hopefully will warm up enough so I can access the instruments. ___end___ GENERAL OBSERVATORY COMMENT BY waters: Sun Feb 12 16:30:52 GMT 2017 It looks like we lost power last night but it seems to be only about ten minutes because the 'Intelligen Power Protector' notification says we were powered by the utility within ten minutes of the power outage. Lots of fun and exciting things this morning. ___end___ GENERAL OBSERVATORY COMMENT BY waters: Sun Feb 12 17:18:30 GMT 2017 With the Sun up, there was about an half an inch to an inch of ice in front of the door facing West. Was able to chisel out the ice that was preventing me from opening the door. The door facing South/upper dome door has a good amount of ice on it. Was able to get the ice that was on the bottom ledge of the door but the ice in the lock is giving me a bit of trouble. Will keep at it for a bit. ___end___ GENERAL OBSERVATORY COMMENT BY waters: Sun Feb 12 17:53:29 GMT 2017 Was finally able to open the door to the upper dome. Unfortunately, there is ice in the dog house. I took a look around the main dome area but I did not see any ice or damp spots either on the floor or on the rim of the dome. I am hearing some cracks, as if ice on the dome is warming and falling off. ___end___ WEATHER COMMENT: waters: Sun Feb 12 18:00:16 GMT 2017 Every once in a while, we are getting some gusts of wind up to 25mph from the South-Southwest. I'll hold off on opening the dome until the wind has calmed down a bit, which looks like it shouldn't be too long from now. ___end___ Sun Feb 12 19:05:00 GMT 2017 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited Sun Feb 12 19:06:24 GMT 2017 SGS Alignment complete Sun Feb 12 19:07:42 GMT 2017 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited Sun Feb 12 19:08:37 GMT 2017 CoMP occulter has been re-centered Sun Feb 12 19:10:08 GMT 2017 COMP Start Patrol on cookbook: synoptic-00010.cbk Sun Feb 12 19:12:38 GMT 2017 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol Sun Feb 12 19:28:36 GMT 2017 KCOR End Patrol Sun Feb 12 19:28:36 GMT 2017 KCOR Start Calibration script: c:\kcor\mlso-calibration22deg-20150323.ini Sun Feb 12 19:45:52 GMT 2017 KCOR End Calibration Script Sun Feb 12 19:46:09 GMT 2017 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol Sun Feb 12 19:46:10 GMT 2017 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol Sun Feb 12 20:11:32 GMT 2017 KCOR End Patrol Sun Feb 12 20:11:38 GMT 2017 CoMP Paused for clouds Sun Feb 12 20:12:25 GMT 2017 SGS Alignment complete Sun Feb 12 20:12:28 GMT 2017 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol Sun Feb 12 20:12:32 GMT 2017 CoMP Restarted from pause GENERAL OBSERVATORY COMMENT BY waters: Sun Feb 12 20:12:39 GMT 2017 The light dusting of snow and ice has almost completely gone. Just still need to be careful on the West side of the building as the ice is still thick and slick. ___end___ GENERAL OBSERVATORY COMMENT BY waters: Sun Feb 12 21:07:28 GMT 2017 The building to the right of the outhouse has part of it's roof flapping in the wind every so often. I'll try to keep an eye on it in case it desides to take flight but we should let NOAA know. ___end___ Sun Feb 12 21:39:52 GMT 2017 KCOR End Patrol Sun Feb 12 21:40:24 GMT 2017 CoMP Paused for clouds Sun Feb 12 21:41:00 GMT 2017 SGS Alignment complete Sun Feb 12 21:41:04 GMT 2017 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol Sun Feb 12 21:41:08 GMT 2017 CoMP Restarted from pause Sun Feb 12 21:54:08 GMT 2017 COMP End Patrol Sun Feb 12 21:55:31 GMT 2017 KCOR End Patrol Sun Feb 12 21:55:48 GMT 2017 SGS Alignment complete Sun Feb 12 21:55:55 GMT 2017 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol Sun Feb 12 21:56:15 GMT 2017 CoMP occulter has been re-centered Sun Feb 12 21:56:17 GMT 2017 COMP Start Patrol on cookbook: waves-00001.cbk GENERAL OBSERVATORY COMMENT BY waters: Sun Feb 12 21:56:29 GMT 2017 Comp occulter adjusted. ___end___ Sun Feb 12 23:28:37 GMT 2017 COMP End Patrol Sun Feb 12 23:28:40 GMT 2017 KCOR End Patrol Sun Feb 12 23:29:50 GMT 2017 SGS Alignment complete Sun Feb 12 23:29:58 GMT 2017 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol Sun Feb 12 23:30:26 GMT 2017 CoMP occulter has been re-centered Sun Feb 12 23:30:28 GMT 2017 COMP Start Patrol on cookbook: synoptic-00010.cbk GENERAL OBSERVATORY COMMENT BY waters: Sun Feb 12 23:31:28 GMT 2017 Comp occulter adjusted ___end___ Mon Feb 13 02:12:16 GMT 2017 COMP End Patrol Mon Feb 13 02:12:16 GMT 2017 COMP Start Patrol on cookbook: waves-00001.cbk Mon Feb 13 02:22:38 GMT 2017 COMP End Patrol KCOR COMMENT BY waters: Mon Feb 13 02:23:58 GMT 2017 Kcor synoptic data GUI would not stop taking data when the stop button was pressed. I manually typed stop in socketcam and then closed/quit socketcam and the synoptic GUI finally shut down. Restarting the Kcor computer while I close up so hopefully it feels better tomorrow. ___end___ GENERAL OBSERVATORY COMMENT BY waters: Mon Feb 13 02:31:14 GMT 2017 Besides a bit of wind at the start and a few hiccups, it was a great day for data. ___end___
