----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mauna Loa Solar Observatory Observer's Log ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sun Apr 30 16:07:16 GMT 2017 Year: 17 Doy: 120 Observer: waters WEATHER COMMENT: waters: Sun Apr 30 16:07:21 GMT 2017 Temp 36F with windspeed between 13-18mph from the South. Currently raining with a bit of snow flurries mixed in from time to time. Nothing really sticking here ar the weather station yet but there is some snow starting to pile up on the ridge to the South. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Sun Apr 30 21:16:37 GMT 2017 Had a power flux, luckily it was very short. ___end___ GENERAL OBSERVATORY COMMENT BY waters: Sun Apr 30 23:51:41 GMT 2017 Seems like we're putting our new dome through its paces. While the weather had subsided for a little bit, I went upstairs to inspect the dome. We were getting some drips while the shutter was facing East, so I decided to try different positions to minimize where they came in from. Unfortunately, regardless of where the dome is positioned, water is seeping through some bolts that are under the lip that hangs above the orange rings. I have found that having the dome slot face the North minimizes the drips from the dome slot as well as the number of bolts that has water seeping down it. I lightly covered the instruments on the spar and have shut off power to the dome rotator. I also noticed the dome shimmy a bit when the wind kicks into high gear (30+). Have been checking on things upstairs periodically throughout the day now. ___end___ GENERAL OBSERVATORY COMMENT BY waters: Mon May 1 00:15:57 GMT 2017 Dog house has been getting water in it from the bottom as well as the sides of the door. Also the handle is leaking water. ___end___ GONG COMMENT BY waters: Mon May 1 01:26:52 GMT 2017 Was hailing a bit, so when it slowed, I went down the the GONG shelter and stowed the turret. ___end___ GENERAL OBSERVATORY COMMENT BY waters: Mon May 1 01:28:09 GMT 2017 In and out of high wind, rain/hail and snow flurries. Here's to hoping it calms down. ___end___
