----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mauna Loa Solar Observatory Observer's Log ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tue Feb 11 18:21:26 GMT 2020 Year: 20 Doy: 042 Observer: waters GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 11 18:22:26 GMT 2020 Made it! ___end___ WEATHER COMMENT: waters: Tue Feb 11 18:27:27 GMT 2020 Temp 31F with windspeed at about 18-23mph from the West-Southwest. Road was icey about 4 miles out of the observatory; waited until 8am for it to melt. Was able to get to the public parking but no further, walked up the rest of the way. Snow is about 1-2 inches thick in some places and everything is covered in a thick ice. Sky looks clear; Kcor temp around 29C, will wait a bit for it to warm up before opening. Also, for the sounds of ice falling to calm a little. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 11 18:41:27 GMT 2020 Took a look at the dome, the track is covered in thick ice. Went to try and move it a a little bit and it moved a centimeter but then stopped with the motor straining to move. Will have to wait for the track to melt before opening. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 11 18:48:47 GMT 2020 Going down to un-stow GONG. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 11 19:10:56 GMT 2020 Was able to rotate the dome but no ice dislodged from it; currently have the track encased in ice facing the Sun now. Hoping it melts soon. Thanks Ben! ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 11 19:41:31 GMT 2020 Checked the dome, was able to open it about a foot before it stopped this time. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 11 20:27:33 GMT 2020 Fog bank moving across just South of the observatory. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 11 21:04:50 GMT 2020 Lower shutter is not opening properly, opened a little bit but then wouldn't close. Tried to open it a little bit more then to close it. Seems liked that helped but once the top track is cleared, will rotate the dome again and hopefully get the bottom shutter to open properly. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 11 21:30:08 GMT 2020 There's some snow in the dome, by the dome rotator motor and by some pin holes on the opposite side of the shutter. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 11 21:30:59 GMT 2020 PM Blew off Kcor O1 ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 11 21:31:01 GMT 2020 ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 11 21:31:12 GMT 2020 Windows opened upstairs ___end___ Tue Feb 11 21:32:46 GMT 2020 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited Tue Feb 11 21:33:57 GMT 2020 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol GPS COMMENT by MLSO: Tue Feb 11 21:45:07 GMT 2020 Successfully logged in to system Good disk mount GPS software running Last 5 GPS data files are: dataoutiq_2020_037_2226.bin 2147483647 dataoutiq_2020_038_2226.bin 2147483647 dataoutiq_2020_039_2226.bin 2147483647 dataoutiq_2020_040_2226.bin 2147483647 dataoutiq_2020_041_2145.bin 2147483647 ___end___ Tue Feb 11 21:57:53 GMT 2020 KCOR End Patrol Tue Feb 11 21:57:53 GMT 2020 KCOR End Patrol GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 11 21:58:29 GMT 2020 Clouds crossing, Kcor stopped ___end___ Tue Feb 11 22:02:30 GMT 2020 KCOR Start Synoptic Patrol Tue Feb 11 22:03:25 GMT 2020 KCOR End Patrol Tue Feb 11 22:03:27 GMT 2020 KCOR End Patrol GENERAL COMMENT BY waters: Tue Feb 11 22:05:46 GMT 2020 Clouds crossing again and this batch looks low, closing dome just in case ___end___ WEATHER COMMENT: waters: Tue Feb 11 22:17:53 GMT 2020 Things were starting to warm up, got to about 37F but now the temperature is starting to drop.
