----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mauna Loa Solar Observatory Observer's Log ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tue Mar 16 17:19:12 GMT 2021 Year: 21 Doy: 075 Observer: mcotter WEATHER COMMENT: Observer: Tue Mar 16 17:32:59 GMT 2021 Temp: 36.3f, Humidity: 94%, Pressure: 28.766in, Wind: 0mph from 242degs, Skies:Cirrus and Altocumulus clouds covering most of the sky with patches of blue sky visible to the west with gradual clearing. ___end___ **UCoMP PROBLEM COMMENT BY Observer** : Tue Mar 16 18:21:03 GMT 2021 UCoMP O1 moved -Z ~1.3mm. This should get us in to focus range for the 1083 wavelength. Focus test to be done once the clouds clear out. O1 was also moved toward the east side of the spar as far as possible to try and correct out the slight miss-alignment we were seeing on the field lens yesterday. It felt like we may have gotten ~.5mm before we hit the end of our travel range in that direction so I expect we will not see an appreciable change in the position of the sun on the field lens. If we need more range we will either need to widen the slot in the spar extension that we bolt the O1 into or move the instrument baseplate. ___end___ Tue Mar 16 18:40:18 GMT 2021 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited GENERAL COMMENT BY Observer: Tue Mar 16 18:42:35 GMT 2021 PM Blew off Kcor O1 ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY Observer: Tue Mar 16 18:42:45 GMT 2021 Opened windows upstairs ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY Observer: Tue Mar 16 18:43:57 GMT 2021 Kcor now running. Checked Polarization: Mid, Bright, Dark, Mid. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY Observer: Tue Mar 16 18:47:04 GMT 2021 SGS Guider off sets: X(RA) -125, Y(Dec) 30. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY Observer: Tue Mar 16 19:00:39 GMT 2021 Fog quickly blew up from the saddle. Stopping observations for now. ___end___ GONG COMMENT BY Observer: Wed Mar 17 00:18:11 GMT 2021 Worked with the Gong folks to try various itterations of cameralink changes to reduce their noise. So far no improvement. ___end___ Log Type BY Observer: Wed Mar 17 01:51:36 GMT 2021 Installed the spar guider telescope on the front of the spar to be use a metric for spar flexure. Currently still working on some issues with the software; but the hope is this can run on shabar-laptop2 and collect an independent sent of spar pointing data over the course of the day. Once the system is up and working we plan to move the guide telescope to different locations on the spar (currently just +/-Z on the Chromag face of the spar). ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY Observer: Wed Mar 17 02:04:56 GMT 2021 Finished installing new hardware for the lower to mid pier bolt attachment. All nuts are tight and it is my plan to inspect this hardware in six months to verify all hardware is still secure. I re-tapped the 1/4" x 20 threaded holes that is used to secure the access panel cover to the mid pier and installed new hardware (1/4"-20x5/8"lg - 16 pcs. Flanged Button Socket Cap Screw). ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY Observer: Wed Mar 17 02:06:26 GMT 2021 We were able to collect data for a brief period of time, but fog came in swiftly from the west-northwest and were were forced to close the dome shutter doors and windows. ___end___ WEATHER COMMENT: Observer: Wed Mar 17 02:09:04 GMT 2021 Temp: 40.1f, Humidity: 88%, Pressure: 28.707in, Wind: 6mph from 300degs, Skies: Overcast skies with fog, rain, sleet and snow was the weather for almost the entire day.
