Gusty winds blowing from the southeast. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Tue Jun 15 16:57:53 GMT 2021 I am holding off on opening the dome at this time. Winds are quite gusty and increasing in wind speed, but more so the skies are covered in high altitude Cirrus and Cirrostratus clouds making the sky extremely bright at this time. ___end___ WEATHER COMMENT: mcotter: Tue Jun 15 18:34:40 GMT 2021 High Altitude Cirrus and Cirrostratus clouds are increasing across the sky. According to the radar & satellite imagery the High altitude Cirrus and Cirrostratus clouds are blowing in from the west and conditions are going to continue to degrade for the foreseeable future. Looking the the western sky Cirrus and Cirrostratus clouds are thickening and completely covering the sky. Lower altitude skies remain quite hazy but there is a remarkable lack of any clouds at these lower levels. With the lack of clouds, to the east almost the entire island of Maui is visible and the peaks of Haleakala and Mauna Kahalavai that make up the West Maui Mountains stand out on the horizon. In the distance beyond Maui the mountain peaks on Molaka'i can be made out. Looking to the east the shore line of the Big Island of Hawai'i is visible, which is unusual as there is almost always clouds present in the Saddle Valley which lies between Maunakea and Maunaloa. On the drive up to the observatory Hilo Bay, the Big Island largest natural bay, was still visible from the 9,500' level, before cresting the mountain to the western face of Maunaloa and out of line of sight of the bay. Winds have diminished somewhat, but are still blowing steady from the southeast. ___end___ WEATHER COMMENT: mcotter: Tue Jun 15 22:42:48 GMT 2021 Skies are completely overcast with high altitude Cirrus and Cirrostratus clouds. No data today. ___end___ ONSITE STAFF: mcotter
