Very icy conditions at the observatory and on the roads from approximately 9500' level to the science center. Had to wait until road partially thawed before proceeding from the approximately 10,000' level. A car has skidded off the side of the road at the bend at approximately 10,500' level. The doors and windows were slightly frozen shut and extra effort was required to open. The inversion layer is a dark grayish blue and is quite visible just below the level of Haleakala. ___end___ Sat Dec 18 18:52:55 GMT 2021 Running UCOMP Cookbook 1079_Scan.cbk line 0 UCoMP COMMENT BY mcotter: Sat Dec 18 18:52:32 GMT 2021 Ucomp instrument now running. ___end___ Sat Dec 18 18:54:45 GMT 2021 Running UCOMP Cookbook all_wavelenght_coronal_flat.cbk line 0 KCOR COMMENT BY mcotter: Sat Dec 18 18:54:30 GMT 2021 Kcor instrument now running. The software may have an issue as during the un-stowing process the operator is prompted to check that the "Pitch" & "Roll" LED's are not illuminated. Both LED's were illuminated. I followed the instructions and was able to get the system to recover but the GONG instrument appears to be in need of a prompt, as the operator is prompted to contact the GONG personnel when done. I will send an email to the GONG crew. ___end___ Sat Dec 18 20:06:45 GMT 2021 KCOR Start Calibration script: c:\kcor\mlso-calibration22deg-20171025.ini Sat Dec 18 20:11:04 GMT 2021 Running UCOMP Cookbook all_wavelenght_coronal.cbk line 28 Sat Dec 18 20:22:01 GMT 2021 KCOR End Calibration Script Sat Dec 18 20:25:22 GMT 2021 Running UCOMP Cookbook no-occulter-flat.cbk line 0 Sat Dec 18 20:31:55 GMT 2021 Running UCOMP Cookbook dark_80ms_2beam_16sums_BOTH.cbk line 0 Sat Dec 18 20:33:12 GMT 2021 Running UCOMP Cookbook 637_Pol_Calibrate.cbk line 0 Sat Dec 18 20:37:32 GMT 2021 Running UCOMP Cookbook 656_Pol_Calibrate.cbk line 0 Sat Dec 18 20:41:41 GMT 2021 Running UCOMP Cookbook 789_Pol_Calibrate.cbk line 0 Sat Dec 18 20:45:45 GMT 2021 Running UCOMP Cookbook 1074_Pol_Calibrate.cbk line 0 Sat Dec 18 20:49:49 GMT 2021 Running UCOMP Cookbook 1079_Pol_Calibrate.cbk line 0 Sat Dec 18 20:53:53 GMT 2021 Running UCOMP Cookbook waves_1074_1hour.cbk line 0 Sat Dec 18 21:33:17 GMT 2021 Running UCOMP Cookbook waves_1074_1hour.cbk line 72 Sat Dec 18 22:00:31 GMT 2021 UCoMP Paused for clouds GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sat Dec 18 22:07:41 GMT 2021 Both instruments have been paused due to clouds in the viewing area. Small droplets of water can be felt outside, though it does not actually appear to be raining. There are some additional Orthographic clouds to the east that are blowing toward the observatory and they are gray color, so perhaps the water droplets are blowing from them. The dome is now closed due to precipitation. ___end___ WEATHER COMMENT: mcotter: Sun Dec 19 02:18:59 GMT 2021 When working around the spar today I heard a humming sound coming from the HEPA vacuum located toward the bottom of the spar that provides air into and out of the tube. I removed the hose cap and could see that the squirrel cage fan was stalled and humming. I stopped the HEPA vacuum and removed the fan assembly. Upon inspecting the fan assembly it did not appear to be jammed or overly tight to spin. Our meter that we have here at the observatory does not have a capacitor check function, but by the way the motor is oscillating it makes me believe that the motor starting capacitor is the problem. I looked around the observatory to see if we had any spare parts, but we do not. The cap is rated 25 microfarad 370VAC. I left the vacuum in the off position until the fan is repaired. ___end___ Sun Dec 19 02:57:49 GMT 2021 UCoMP Restarted from pause GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun Dec 19 02:58:35 GMT 2021 Clouds came in mid day and they broke up a little bit, they stuck around for the rest of the day. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun Dec 19 02:59:04 GMT 2021 Emptied trash receptacle in control room. ___end___ ONSITE STAFF: mcotter
