Lower level Altocumulus and Cumulus clouds are scattered across the Saddle Valley and across various areas of the Big Island. The inversion layer is indiscernible because of the clouds scattered across the horizon at various levels and Haleakala is not visible. The wind is very strong and gusty, blowing from the east-southeast. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sat Jul 02 17:34:19 GMT 2022 An attempt was made to open the dome but the wind is very strong and gusty. The Ucomp instrument was not put on sky and observing until after the Sun rose away from the horizon and the winds moved more from the south which was approximately 0830 HST. The Ucomp instrument was briefly paused as the Sun passed through a band of Cirrus, but the instrument is again observing. ___end___ KCOR COMMENT BY mcotter: Sat Jul 02 19:48:33 GMT 2022 The sky was quite bright early this morning at the start of day and the winds were strong and gusty. Looking at the weather satellite images shows that the bands of Cirrus clouds are likely to be in the viewing area for the rest of the day. Both Kcor and Ucomp have been stopped due to poor sky conditions. ___end___ Sun Jul 03 02:13:57 GMT 2022 Running UCOMP Cookbook all_wavelength_coronal_flat.cbk line 0 Sun Jul 03 02:16:45 GMT 2022 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited Sun Jul 03 02:17:38 GMT 2022 UCoMP Paused for clouds Sun Jul 03 02:20:49 GMT 2022 UCoMP Restarted from pause UCoMP COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun Jul 03 02:26:17 GMT 2022 Tested a new USB3.0 cable from the ucomp computer to the startech swtich. Windows was not happy with the results; and saw the hub as a poorly configured device. I think this is related to the other "lemon" issues we tend to have with ucomp PC. USB cable config was reverted to nonimal condition; with plans to try the new cable out again when we replace the ucomp computer. ___end___ UCoMP COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun Jul 03 02:47:59 GMT 2022 PM Washed UCoMP O1. The Ucomp 01 lens was removed from the instrument and it had a lot of particulate contamination upon inspection. The lens was thoroughly rinsed then washed repeatedly with soap and water. The lens was then inspected by Ben after cleaning and it was thought to be much improved. The Ucomp 01 lens was reinstalled and is ready for observing. ___end___ KCOR COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun Jul 03 02:48:56 GMT 2022 PM Washed Kcor O1. PM Washed UCoMP O1. After approximately one hour the sky cleared enough to start observing. By late morning high altitude Cirrus clouds moved into the viewing area from the southwest and observing was paused. We took this opportunity to wash both Ucomp and Kcor 01 lens' then returned them both to the instrument for later observations. ___end___ ONSITE STAFF: berkey, mcotter, Joan
