I suspect that the clutch plates have perhaps hardened over time and have lost their inherent ability to provide sufficient steady drag on the adjacent clutch plate. I also found that the brass spur gear that engages with the drive worm gear had some wear on it and there was fine particles of brass distributed throughout the assembly. Because of time constraints I vacuumed all surfaces within the assembly with the HEPA vacuum and then wiped every surface with alcohol. The clutch pad to clutch plate friction was backed off slightly to reduce drag and to try to improve the chatter we have seen. The spar movement now appears to be slightly smoother and our plot traces appear to be back to a normal condition. ___end___ Guider/spar COMMENT BY berkey: Tue Mar 31 18:46:39 GMT 2026 Ran the guider tuning algorithm new values have been saved in the startup config.
