----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mauna Loa Solar Observatory Observer's Log ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sun Jun 07 16:46:38 GMT 2026 Year:26 Doy:158 Observer: mcotter Weather COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun Jun 07 16:50:10 GMT 2026 MLSO Current Weather Timestamp (UTC): 2026-06-07 16:44:00 Temperature : 46.56 deg F Dew Point : 1.24 deg F Pressure : 680.79 mbar Wind Speed : 23.04 mph Wind Direction : 163.3 deg Skies: Very gusty and windy, blowing from the southeast. Dense fog in the Saddle Valley with clouds up to approximately 8500" elevation. The sky is quite clear in all directions. The inversion layer is visible on the horizon well below Haleakala and just above Hualalai. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun Jun 07 17:05:04 GMT 2026 Dome open. The loser dome shutter door is open all the way, but due to the windy conditions I have opened the upper dome shutter only a small amount. The window remain closed due to the windy conditions. ___end___ ** GENERAL PROBLEM REPORTED BY mcotter ** : Sun Jun 07 17:06:56 GMT 2026 The dome monitor and screen are not working at this time. I needed to start the SGS computer and spar in the control room. I will troubleshoot once I am on sky and observing. ___end___ Sun Jun 07 17:09:41 GMT 2026 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited Sun Jun 07 17:26:02 GMT 2026 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited Sun Jun 07 17:39:30 GMT 2026 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited Sun Jun 07 17:42:06 GMT 2026 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited KCOR COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun Jun 07 18:01:16 GMT 2026 Kcor: Ran focus routine and manually set focus to 134.53. Started observations. ___end___ KCOR COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun Jun 07 18:12:53 GMT 2026 When starting the Kcor observing program today The MC4U reported a Red LED for the ePDU Up #1 Field. I went to the Git Hub repository for corrective actions and it indicated when having problems with the MC4U Status indicator LED's to try power cycling the unit. I tried power cycling the computer then running the MC4U and observing programs again. The ePDU Up#1 LED came up Red again and I noticed that the modulator temperature was "0" in the Temp Field. At first I now thought that I had a modulator reporting error and power cycled the ILX and checked the cables, When I returned to the control station the Modulator temp was now showing 34. I called been and asked him about the ePDU Up#1 reporting error and he told me to let it go and observe if all other criteria had been met in the MC4U, which they were all reading good. Polarization checked good. Kcor now observing with no problems. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun Jun 07 18:21:01 GMT 2026 The monitor and KVM selector were not working in the dome when came in this morning. I checked the cables and then power cycled the monitor and KVM unit and the display came up and the selector worked properly. ___end___ Weather COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun Jun 07 19:13:22 GMT 2026 MLSO Current Weather Timestamp (UTC): 2026-06-07 19:02:00 Temperature : 54.66 deg F Dew Point : -0.38 deg F Pressure : 681.42 mbar Wind Speed : 11.18 mph Wind Direction : 155.2 deg Skies: Sky remains clear in all directions. The wind continues to be gusty at times, primarily from the southeast. I opened the upper dome shutter door some more to account for the Sun rising in the sky, but I still have kept it partially closed due to the gusty winds. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun Jun 07 19:16:26 GMT 2026 Sky conditions appear good, but there has been an uptick in the aerosols visible in the images. ___end___ ** KCOR PROBLEM REPORTED BY mcotter ** : Sun Jun 07 19:32:19 GMT 2026 Dome Occulted KCor: The dome was set in auto advance and when it rotated it rotated in the wrong direction. At this time of the year the Sun is far enough north that the domes automatic rotation controls should rotate the dome in a clockwise direction (CW when looking up at the dome from the dome floor). I briefly paused the Kcor instrument observations and corrected the positioning of the dome automatic advance direction to CW. I also opened the upper dome shutter door all the way now that it is no longe exposed to the southern wind. ___end___ KCOR COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun Jun 07 19:32:58 GMT 2026 Kcor is again observing after a brief pause. ___end___ Sun Jun 07 20:19:49 GMT 2026 Report Time: 20:19:34 UTC Image: 20260607_194604_kcor_l2_nrgf.gif Obs time: 19:46:04 Launch Time: 19:38:13 CME Front Height: 1.58 Rs (front) CME Front Angle: 272.6 East Wing Angle: 267.2 West Wing Angle: 276.1 Angular Width: 8.9 CME Speed: fast CME Brightness: moderate Confidence: high Seen in: nrgf Observer Comment: Small fast moving CME observed lausnching from western hemishpere. The wind remains a bit gusty at times, but it has calmed down a bit. Though the images remain nice and clear, aerosols are becoming more observable in the images. ___end___ Weather COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun Jun 07 22:48:45 GMT 2026 MLSO Current Weather Timestamp (UTC): 2026-06-07 22:41:00 Temperature : 57.16 deg F Dew Point : 35.46 deg F Pressure : 681.08 mbar Wind Speed : 6.26 mph Wind Direction : 241.2 deg Skies: The sky is clear overhead in all directions, but there are some Orographic clouds coming up from the east-southeast and the wind has died down a quite a bit.
