At about 8:30 this morning, we switched to the new temporary path, which should let us get through the next phase of construction with no network outages. The old path is currently available until Kelling renovations kick off by moving a fiber jumper in the back of the top unit of the MLSO network rack. A ladder/step stool may be needed to reach the jumper, which needs to be moved to the next plug to the right. UH should be informed if this move is made so they can see traffic where they expect it. New network path is: -MLSO patch panel-Barnes patch panel closest to the door (under the blue tarp), -Turquoise Jumper fiber to the CRS112 port 12 white box on the opposite side of the racks under the tarp. -Shared (with MLONet) Blue Cat6 Ethernet network cable from Barnes CRS112 across the driveway to UCHIDA RB5009 black box in the network rack. The Barnes CRS112 is powered by the Atlas UPS, also under the blue tarp, which is powered by the Atlas Fortress Inverter/battery system inside the Barnes building. The UCHIDA RB5009 is powered by an extension cord that crosses the driveway and is plugged into the East exterior wall of the NDACC building ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY berkey: Tue Sep 01 23:53:27 GMT 2026 NOAA had two contractors on site today. One team was repairing the NDACC solar deck. This work should (or would) have had no impact on our observing. The other team was preparing for the new tower foundation. They did a final survey of the footing locations. This included 4 7x7x4? holes needed for the guy wire anchors and an 11x11x4? tower foundation. They expect to begin mobilizing the equipment needed for the foundation work this week, with construction starting either late this week or early next week. Access to the tower site will be between the new MLSO solar array and the NOAA tsunami seismograph and will involve removing a section of the wood and metal boardwalk, as well as a section of our unused utility power lines. This alignment will likely never be used again, but the plan will allow for the wires to be spliced back together if needed in the future.
