Building maintenance: The electrical contractor has finished the internal and external photovoltaic solar array wiring for the Mauna Loa Solar Observatory. Breaker Panel A and Panel B within the observatory are now both energized. All applicable breakers within the panels are operating and providing power to outlets and lights. The dome power has been changed over to building power from the Eco Power unit. The Eco Flo and Yeti power units are both plugged into building power and charging. Other than the dome, all computer and instrument are still maintaining power through the Eco Flo and Yeti power units. During next week we will begin transferring the computer racks, computers and instruments to the building power in an methodical controlled manner. Wet road conditions all the way up to the observatory and at the observatory site. The sky is crisscrossed in many areas with long bands of Cirrus clouds. The inversion layer is visible on the horizon just at the peak of Hualalai. Little to no wind. ___end___ ** GENERAL PROBLEM REPORTED BY mcotter ** : Fri Sep 11 17:09:19 GMT 2026 Internet down: The Internet was down when I came in this morning giving me a small delay in getting the log going. The Yeti power unit battery was at 0% when arrived onsite and there was no output on on the Yeti Power unit (the input to the Yeti was at 69 Watts). I transferred the network power strip to the Eco Pro power unit to get the network operating. The Eco Pro unit battery was at 74%. ___end___ ** GENERAL PROBLEM REPORTED BY mcotter ** : Fri Sep 11 17:41:41 GMT 2026 Internet down: The reason for the internet being down this morning is because during the night the Yeti power unit went completely offline. The batteries are now charging and should continue to come up to normal levels as the Sun continues to rise. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Fri Sep 11 17:43:13 GMT 2026 Opened windows upstairs ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Fri Sep 11 17:43:18 GMT 2026 Dome open ___end___ ** KCOR PM mcotter ** : Fri Sep 11 17:43:24 GMT 2026 Blew off Kcor O1 ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Fri Sep 11 17:44:22 GMT 2026 The spar and Guider and computer have been turned on and the spar is now tracking the Sun. ___end___ KCOR COMMENT BY mcotter: Fri Sep 11 18:02:39 GMT 2026 Kcor: The Kcor computer and instrument are powered up and on sky. EDITED TO ADD BY mgalloy: Wed Sep 16 17:32:06 GMT 2026 Power is now available from the full solar panel array allowing the KCor hepa system to be turned on. The hepa system is now running. It had been turned off for nearly all of the 2026 KCor observations. The sky continues to be covered in Cirrus clouds and possible Cirrostratus clouds, but as the Sun rises it may pass through some pukas in which observations may be taken. Currently the instrument is pointing to clouds. ___end___ Fri Sep 11 18:25:43 GMT 2026 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited KCOR COMMENT BY mcotter: Fri Sep 11 18:44:25 GMT 2026 Kcor: The Sun has risen into a nice clear area of the sky and the Kcor instrument is now observing. ___end___ Weather COMMENT BY mcotter: Fri Sep 11 19:45:36 GMT 2026 MLSO Current Weather Timestamp (UTC): 2026-09-11 19:38:00 Temperature : 53.62 deg F Dew Point : 38.45 deg F Pressure : 680.21 mbar Wind Speed : 7.83 mph Wind Direction : 330.6 deg Skies: The sky where the observing is taking place is a bit bright, as can be observed in the synoptic images. When the lens mount is loaded into the instrument two spring loaded conical shaped posts engage with the countersink depressions and secure the lens mount into place. Previously, the lens mount required a brass shim to be installed between the O1 Mount and the backplate in the instrument where the O1 Lens Mount rested due to a small bit of slop in the engagement. Now the O1 Lens Mount has a more secure feel with little to no discernible unwanted movement. ___end___ Sat Sep 12 01:29:11 GMT 2026 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited KCOR COMMENT BY KCOR: Sat Sep 12 01:37:41 GMT 2026 KCOR file transfer report KCor created 330 .bin files 330 .fts files Remote site is complete ? no rsync required. ___end___ ** UCOMP PM mcotter ** : Sat Sep 12 01:50:11 GMT 2026 UCoMP Occulter swapped old# ** ,new# 31 **There was no occulter in the instrument before the #31 occulter was installed. ___end___ BY mcotter: Sat Sep 12 02:05:13 GMT 2026 End Of Day: The sky was crisscrossed with bands of Cirrus clouds since the start of the day.
