Focus range set at 136.58 KCOR COMMENT BY mcotter: Mon Oct 19 17:22:53 GMT 2026 Kcor: The Kcor instrument is now on sky and observing. The initial synoptic images look very good. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Mon Oct 19 17:29:05 GMT 2026 The NOAA construction crew is onsite and have started working driving heavy vehicles across the lava. Due to a strong steady wind blowing from the south the dust that they are kicking up does not appear to be making its way into the area of the sky where observations are taking place, so observations are at this time continuing. I will continue to closely monitor conditions to ensure that the NOAA site activity does not adversely affect the observations. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Mon Oct 19 18:22:46 GMT 2026 Concrete pour in tower footing nearest to the observatory is underway. Winds still strong out of the south east so dust generated in the process is not an issue. ___end___ ** KCOR PM mcotter ** : Mon Oct 19 19:50:10 GMT 2026 First Contact Kcor #4-O1 The Kcor #4-O1 was cleaned last week with soap and water and spot cleaned with alcohol. After this cleaning process there were still some foreign particles present in a somewhat spot pattern in areas resembling a spray pattern. This morning the O1 lens frame was taken apart and one half of the frame was separated from the lens glass, exposing the edge of the glass all the way around. Then using painters masking tape with plastic attached ( the kind of tape for masking a window) a layer of tape was put around the entire outer edge of the circumference of the lens (this was accomplished by cutting the tape into 1.5" segments and applying them in an overlapping pattern, so a uniform berm was established around the entire outer surface of the glass). Two coats of First Contact was applied to the #4-O1 lens in the clean room. The lens is still in the clean room as we wait for the First Contact to cure. ___end___ Weather COMMENT BY mcotter: Mon Oct 19 19:59:44 GMT 2026 MLSO Current Weather Timestamp (UTC): 2026-10-19 19:56:00 Temperature : 55.58 deg F Dew Point : -5.89 deg F Pressure : 682.83 mbar Wind Speed : 15.88 mph Wind Direction : 85.1 deg Skies: The sky continues to be very clear overhead. ___end___ Mon Oct 19 19:59:55 GMT 2026 KCOR Start Calibration script: c:\kcor\mlso-calibration22deg-20171025.ini Mon Oct 19 20:15:11 GMT 2026 KCOR End Calibration Script GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Mon Oct 19 20:26:19 GMT 2026 Weather report: The sky remains very clear but aerosols are starting to get heavy. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Mon Oct 19 20:40:19 GMT 2026 entry was edited Closed Lower Dome Shutter Door. The Lower Dome Shutter Door has been closed at this time due to gusty wind conditions, blowing from the east, in order to inhibit wind buffeting on the instruments and spar. ___end___ Weather COMMENT BY mcotter: Mon Oct 19 21:39:43 GMT 2026 MLSO Current Weather Timestamp (UTC): 2026-10-19 21:29:00 Temperature : 57.38 deg F Dew Point : 0.16 deg F Pressure : 682.45 mbar Wind Speed : 15.21 mph Wind Direction : 61.6 deg Skies: The sky continues to be very clear overhead and in the viewing area. Aerosol have increased significantly and are quite visible in the synoptic, Level 0 and NRGF images. The wind continues to be elevated and and blowing gustily from the east-northeast. ___end___ BY mcotter: Mon Oct 19 21:49:07 GMT 2026 Weather Report: Orographic clouds can be seen forming to the east and west at this time. The wind continues to blow quite gustily from the east-northeast. Aerosols are significant and very heavy. ___end___ BY mcotter: Mon Oct 19 22:23:10 GMT 2026 Weather Report: The sky continues to be clear overhead and in the viewing area. Orographic clouds continue to increase to the west, and Orographic clouds are now coming over the summit of Maunaloa to the south. The wind appears to be increasing and is blowing quite gustily from the northeast. Aerosols continue to be very high. ___end___ BY mcotter: Tue Oct 20 01:24:05 GMT 2026 Reopened Lower Dome Shutter Door: The lower dome shutter door has been reopen due to the spar and instrument now pointing lower on the western sky as it tracks the Sun. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Tue Oct 20 01:27:57 GMT 2026 Weather Report: The sky overhead and in the viewing area continues to be very clear. Aerosols have dropped noticeably since mid day when they had been at their heaviest. The wind continues to be strong and gusty, but it continues to blow out of the east so it appears to be helping keep the Orographic clouds from advancing toward the observatory. ___end___ KCOR COMMENT BY KCOR: Tue Oct 20 02:56:08 GMT 2026 KCOR file transfer report KCor created 2262 .bin files 2262 .fts files Remote site is complete ? no rsync required. ___end___ Logger COMMENT BY mcotter: Tue Oct 20 02:58:03 GMT 2026 Log closed ONSITE STAFF: berkey, mcotter ___end___
