The sky appears fairly clear but the wind is gusty out of the southeast. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY : Sat Jul 25 17:07:02 GMT 2026 Dome open. Windows remain closed due to gusty wind conditions. ___end___ ** KCOR PM ** : Sat Jul 25 17:07:10 GMT 2026 Blew off Kcor O1 ___end___ KCOR BY : Sat Jul 25 17:09:18 GMT 2026 Kcor: The Kcor instrument is on sky and observing. The sky conditions look good though due to gusty winds windows remain closed and the dome is positioned away from the southeasterly wind. Initial synoptic images look very good. ___end___ ** KCOR PROBLEM REPORTED BY ** : Sat Jul 25 19:34:48 GMT 2026 Kcor circular acquisition error. The wind remains quite gusty out of the east. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY : Sat Jul 25 21:24:04 GMT 2026 Due to the current gusty winds coming out of the east I have closed the lower dome shutter to help prevent any wind related shaking of the spar and instrument. ___end___ Sat Jul 25 22:40:36 GMT 2026 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited KCOR COMMENT BY : Sat Jul 25 22:43:21 GMT 2026 Kcor: The Kcor NRGF images are getting a little hard to read so I re-ran the focus routine again to see if I could improve upon the focus and thus image quality. ___end___ KCOR BY : Sat Jul 25 23:09:44 GMT 2026 Kcor: I am not satisfied with how the NRGF images are looking after running the Focus routine this last time. I am going to try running it again. Aerosols are picking up and the sky is growing brighter, but I think that the images could be better. ___end___ Sat Jul 25 23:11:58 GMT 2026 Kcor Focus/alignment program exited KCOR BY : Sat Jul 25 23:26:14 GMT 2026 After re-running the focus routine the first time, when the NRGF images came up they showed a much darker more clearly defined fringing pattern, particularly in the northeast quadrant of the image. I have just finished re-running the focus routine a second time, but I ended up manually setting the focus position to 134.46 from the 128.18. The sky has become much brighter and aerosols have increased quite a bit, as can be seen in the Synoptic, Level 0 and NRGF images. ___end___ ** KCOR PROBLEM REPORTED BY ** : Sun Jul 26 00:04:09 GMT 2026 Dome Occulted KCor. It's the time of year when the Sun's relative position to Earth is going south in the sky, but it still remains fairly far to the north (today is Lahaina Noon day at the MLSO). It can be difficult to get the dome to properly track the Sun's position and whether to set the dome controls to automatically rotate in a CW rotation or in a CCW rotation. ___end___ Weather COMMENT BY : Sun Jul 26 00:07:11 GMT 2026 MLSO Current Weather Timestamp (UTC): 2026-07-26 00:02:00 Temperature : 65.93 deg F Dew Point : 4.41 deg F Pressure : 681.8 mbar Wind Speed : 17.67 mph Wind Direction : 75.4 deg Skies: The sky has become very bright and aerosols are quite high. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY : Sun Jul 26 00:10:44 GMT 2026 The synoptic images have become bright. I tried to continue observing but the images are getting poor. I am going to stop observing for now and wait to see if conditions improve. ___end___ KCOR BY : Sun Jul 26 01:20:47 GMT 2026 Kcor: I tried putting the instrument back on sky to observe but the sky has become entirely too bright for any observations at this time. ___end___ Weather COMMENT BY : Sun Jul 26 01:40:07 GMT 2026 MLSO Current Weather Timestamp (UTC): 2026-07-26 01:32:00 Temperature : 64.98 deg F Dew Point : 6.13 deg F Pressure : 681.47 mbar Wind Speed : 11.63 mph Wind Direction : 61.2 deg Skies: The sky continues to be clear but very bright; much to bright to observe. Orographic clouds are beginning to make their way over the southern and western slopes of Maunaloa. The wind is still quite gusty and continues to blow strong out of the east. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY : Sun Jul 26 01:45:23 GMT 2026 Due to the bright sky conditions, the elevated aerosols and the sustained gusty winds I believe it is unlikely that conditions will improve to the point that observations can continue for today. I am going to stop the SGS and Kcor computers and close the dome in an effort to reserve power for tomorrows observing. ___end___ KCOR COMMENT BY KCOR: Sun Jul 26 01:50:04 GMT 2026 KCOR file transfer report KCor created 2024 .bin files 2019 .fts files NOTICE ? 5 .bin file(s) with no matching .fts: 20260725_193046_kcor.bin 20260725_203635_kcor.bin 20260725_223817_kcor.bin 20260725_230738_kcor.bin 20260726_014544_kcor.bin Remote site is complete ? no rsync required. ___end___ GENERAL COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun Jul 26 02:28:31 GMT 2026 End Of Day: Good observing in the morning, but the sky became very bright in the afternoon with elevated aerosols. Gusty winds out of the east persisted all day out of the east. ___end___ Logger COMMENT BY mcotter: Sun Jul 26 02:28:39 GMT 2026 Log closed ONSITE STAFF: mcotter ___end___
