First contact was applied yesterday and left overnight on both sides of the lens; this seemed like the best application so far as it peeled off in one layer with no additional cleaning required to remove torn material. The surface looked pretty good after the peel, but we did accumulate some dust during the peel and transport up to the telescope. We were able to remove all of visible large dust material. However a "point" source was seen on the O1 during inspection in full sun, which would not blow off. Based on how it caught the light it looks like this is a defect in the lens surface not the dust on top. We think this bright point is likely the source of the large bullet hole seen in the south. Inspection of the NRGF images does after completing the cleaning does not show a significant change in image quality. The fringes and large southern bullet hole remain. But at this point it is not clear what other interventions could be done to clean up the this lens. Trying to address the lack of feedback we get from the hall sensor on open/close states. The sensor claims to need a 5 V signal where the driver board supplies 6.75 V. As a temporary check the senor was moved to an external 5 V power supply to see if this changed the feedback signal; but the results remained the same. The 5 V power was removed and the hall sensor is currently unpowered while we wait for more information from the vendor. The shutter is operational and the header meta-data remains tied to the commanded state not the position feedback. As a note; even with the feedback working I still think we would have senses the 90% closed state as closed.
